Our April meeting speaker was Joyce Meader on the "History of Knitting" it ws a very enjoyable and amusing talk with many examples of knitted garments and patterns from the early 1920's up to the present day, it was amazing how many different items were knitted during the WW11 when everyone was encouraged to "make do and mend" by unpicking old sweaters etc to make new things.
After a short break for tea and biscuits, the Members meeting continued with reports from the craft and walking groups and also the monthly pub lunch, which had taken place at the Wheatsheaf in New Milton and been excellent as always.
Preparations are under way by the craft group for the New Forest Show in July. The wonderful entries made by the Members for the Brockenhurst Craft Show last month were on display at this meeting for everyone to see. An update was also given on the Saltern Group event featuring Nelly Gahaffer, a previous entrant on the Great British Bake Off.
There will be no speaker next month as in May we hold our Annual meeting to elect the committee and Officers for the coming year. At our June meeting on Tuesday 2nd June our speaker will be Susan Waldron on "Craft of the Inland Waterways". We meet at Hordle WI Hall on the first Tuesday of the month 2-4pm, doors open at 1.30pm.
