Our July meeting speaker was actress and historian Jane Glennie whose talk was entitled “Who’s wearing the trousers?”Jane dressed in the 1880’s ladies style of bustle, heavy petticoats and many layers covering the awful corsets worn at the time! Jane took on the persona of Lady Campbell who with the guidance of Viscountess Harberton formed the “Rational Dress Society” for ladies to meet in each others parlours to discuss in private alternative styles of dress based on health, comfort, individual taste and convenience and yes this included ladies wearing trousers! Jane used her wonderful acting skills to tell the story which was both informative and hilarious. It was hugely enjoyed by all. After a short break the members meeting continued with updates of the various group activities and the President outlined some of her new ideas for events in the future, including a Yoga Gong Bath night to be held in the hall in October.

Following the very successful Christmas Wreath making session over 20 wreaths will now be entered into the New Forest Show to be held at the end of this month along with many other exhibits from Hordle WI members. There will be no speaker at our August meeting as this will be the annual cream tea served to members by the committee, such a treat. On Tuesday 2nd September our speaker will be Steve Herra on the
